Pages are probably the most used, central element of most WiscWeb/Wordpress sites. Other types of content are usually placed onto pages, rather than existing somehow on their own. Check out this KB article overviewing pages in WiscWeb: kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/internal/67827 . Another good resource is WiscWeb’s KB page about building pages!
Pages have three content areas: Upper Content, Content, and Lower Content. Upper and Lower Content usually stretches the whole width of the page, but the Content area in the middle can have a variety of layouts. For more information about layout options see https://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/internal/87390
The majority of content goes in the Content area in the middle, where you’re reading this. There are a lot of options to work with in this content area! It’s pretty common to start by changing the Headline and Background Choice (background color) by clicking on the Gear icon in the menu for the column content layout (the header that says “One Column Content Layout” that this text block is inside). These settings are explained in kb 87390.
The Content Area can contain multiple column layouts. Think of each of these as a section in the actual content area of the page. You might alternate between a one-column row, a three-column row, and then go back to a one-column row. Try adding a three-column row below this one. Content layouts can be dragged and reordered within their area, but you cannot move something from the Content Area to the Upper Content or anything like that. Be sure to revert any changes to this page once you’re done 🙂
Within each Column Layout, you can add a variety of page elements. These are things like text blocks, images, or other forms of content. You can add more by clicking the + icon in any element’s header menu. You can see these in action on the rest of this page, but searching the kb for “wiscweb element” will take you to the documentation for them.
